There is no hurry to jet off, and with the romantic one bedroom, candlelit Hex Cottage in a quiet corner of 5,000 acres of Capability Brown landscape, there is the perfect spot for a mini-moon at Wilderness.
The thatched former forester’s cottage sits in a quiet corner of the estate overlooking meadowland by the woods. Authentically electricity free and idyllically set, Hex Cottage has been described as an ‘English gingerbread house’ and is a step behind the pace of the real world. Stay cosy with sheepskin rugs, roll top baths, open fires and hypnos beds.
Reconnect over long meals by candlelight, with a large Esse stove warms the cottage and can be used to make big stews or light bites. An apple crate of homemade bread, milk, eggs and fruit will be waiting for you upon arrival so you can forget the shops and leave the real world behind. Explore the 5,000 acres of private parkland on Pashley bicycles or find gentle competition over a singles match on the tennis court open year round. Try your hand at paddle boarding or rowing on the serpentine lake, learn more about the nature that calls Wilderness Reserve home with our estate ecologist or practice your shot with world-class clay instructors. Couples massages can also be arranged on site, followed by a walk to find the Kim Wilkie swimming pool – and hot tub.
Perfect for mini-moons Hex Cottage, with its thatched roof and canopy over the bed, was made for time to connect and relax. No electricity, a private meadow and nothing to detract from the romance.
